The Bombing of Hiroshima

The Bomb Called Little Boy

What Was Little Boy?

The bomb, dropped by a U.S. plane on August 6, 1945, caused deaths of an estimated 80,000 people. Little Boy was the code name of the nuclear bomb dropped
It took about a minute before Little Boy reached the point of the explosion. The point on the map where the bomb exploded is called the hypocenter. Little Boy generated a lot of energy in terms of heat and wind. It also generated a lot of radiation. (Gamma Rays) The wind generated by the bomb destroyed most of the buildings in a 1.5 mile radius. When the wind reached the mountains, it reflected and hit the people in the city center again. The radiation generated by the bomb caused long-term problems to those affected. Many people died in the first few months. Some other people had genetic problems such as, they had malformed children or were unable to have children.

The Bombing
The Target

The target was of course Hiroshima. But three days later the U.S.A. bombed another town called Nagasaki.

The Fireball at the Inatant of the Explosion

The temperature at the instant of the explosion was several million degrees Celsius. After about 1/10,000 of a second the fire ball reached a diameter of about 28 meters and a tempature of about 300,000 degrees Celcius.

The Mushroom Cloud

The mushroom cloud was generated after the explosion. It was made by the disturbed air, and was lifted upward by air currents. When the radioactive smoke reached the lower stratosphere, it spread out horizontally making the shape of a mushroom cap. The cloud eventually disappeared into the surrounding air.

The Damage from the Heat Rays

When the explosion happened a fireball was generated, with a center that reached a tempature of several million degrees Celcius. About 600m from the hypocenter, the heat rays made bubbles form on some roof tiles.
About 1.8 to 2.0 km away from the blast, clothes just burst into flames. About 2.1 km from the blast, wooden fences just caught on fire as well.
The trees about 2.5 km burnt from the inside out. And now the only thing standing, is their their outside bark.

Conclusion
Conclusion

In conclusion I think America was wrong in bombing Hiroshima, because they killed so many innocent people. But this almost instantly stopped the war when the Japanese felt they were defeated.
